Welcome back, everyone! I’m continuing my series of answering a question a day here on the blog, in time for our new episode of Kindred Spirits on Friday night at 9/8c. on Travel Channel.
Today’s question is:
“What do you do to protect yourself? Aren’t you afraid of something following you home?”
I don’t do anything out of the ordinary before I go on an investigation. I am of the opinion that I am strong enough to enter a building and not be vulnerable to any spirits or entities. Many people like to pray, or bring something protective with them. Personally, I am of the opinion that if I told myself I had to rely on something like that and I either forgot to pray or perhaps the item I had put so much faith in was taken from me or lost, I would feel weaker and therefore be in a much more vulnerable state.
So, I enter every investigation knowing that I am enough. I am strong enough.
That being said, I’m also not afraid of any spirits following me home. It has happened occasionally, each time being someone who I feel had more to say and wasn’t ready to finish the conversation. In another instance, I believe the ghost of a child followed me home while I was pregnant.
These are spirits that I sought out on my own. I put myself in a position to find them. I opened the door of communication so it should come as no surprise that sometimes, they’re just not done talking. I’ve found that some more conversation and a polite request for them to leave is enough for them to vacate my house, but sometimes, I don’t even do that, and eventually they find their way out.
Many of our theories point to spirits having been living people. I don’t talk to them in a condescending way. I don’t claim to know what it’s like for them where they are and I would never assume to know where they need to be. I’m just polite and respectful like I am to any living being and so far that’s been enough.
That’s not to say that every spirit is kind and has great intentions. I’ve definitely met spirits who I felt weren’t necessarily nice in life and I have been firm and acted accordingly. These are people that I would much rather meet in spiritual form than in living form. We always say, the dead are much less scary than the living.
Thanks for reading and see you all Friday night at 9/8c on Travel Channel!
PS. I feel like I need to add a disclaimer here that just because we do things a certain way doesn’t mean we feel that others who do things differently are wrong. These are just theories and ideas we personally subscribe too and that we’ve found many of our close colleagues and friends in the paranormal field have also arrived at.
Thank You for that. I also feel like a strong person, and have talked to spirits kindly, but firmly at times. I do believe in a higher power though that does protect me against evil spirits, but unfortunately I do fear Demonic Spirits!
I’ve always wondered if you ever carry glow sticks with you just for emergency back up? Just in case something drains all the power from your equipment and your stuck with no light to see to get out.
It is wonderful that you are answering questions like this. I think there can be alot of misleading ideas that float around in this field. I love the professionalism that you and Adam take with you to an investigation. I look forward to seeing more locations and families that you both as well as Chip can help out. Helping families figure out what is going on in their homes can be quite rewarding. I am one of the founders for Shadow Seekers Paranormal in Converse/ Wabash Indiana. We really enjoy what we do in helping others. Have been to Randolph Infirmary several times. My favorite moment there was in the attic playing flashlight tag with a child spirit. No cameras, no equipment, just playing. And hearing the child laugh, simply amazing.
I learn so much from you, Amy. Thanks for talking about stuff with us.
I lived in the same house for 28 years. Raised my kids there. I always felt we weren’t alone and sometimes my cats would see things. I wasn’t afraid. We lived very close to the Santa Fe Trail down the street where actual wagon ruts were located. I felt like our house had a young female, maybe a teen or a young bride and that she was connected somehow to that trail. We never communicated and just coexisted. At least that’s how I felt. When we moved, I mourned for my house but it was more than that. One day I realized I just missed her and I wonder if she’s still there. I am grateful for our time together.
I’ve always admired your polite and kind demeanor while you’re working. It’s so refreshing and respectable and you know, it just makes sense! Thank you for sharing, I look forward to your future posts.
I’m glad you shared this topic.
Watching Ghost Hunters through the years and now Kindred Spirits. I have always wondered; what you and the crew did to avoid having anything follow you home. Thank you for answering that question.
Kindred Spirits is such a great show. You and Adam have always been a great team. It’s great how you are helping so many families in need.
Thank you Amy, for all the work that goes into making Kindred Spirits.

I always wear a cross, due to my own personal feelings about my love of a savior. However, I agree that it’s a personal choice, if doing paranormal investigations, for someoneto feel they need protectionor not.
If I ever did these types of investigating, I’d probably continue to wear my cross. However, due to your, Adam, & Chip’s GENTLE approach, it helps change people’s mindsets that all ghosts/spirits are scary & something to be feared. I certainly don’t think they are to be feared, & it’s largely due to your professional approach to the paranormal.
I truly believe Kindred Spirits is the best show on tv right now, when it comes to taking a logical & intelligent approach to communication with spirits. I also believe, you, Adam, & Chip’s positive & gentle approach works much better than the other shows where people demand, scream, & yell.
It’s just a personal preference, for me, & probably many people, considering how popular Kindred Spirits has become. I like to feel calm, & stay calm, when watching paranormal shows. Keep my cortisol/stress level, in balance.
I think this is key to your success; treating spirits with respect. You’ve gotten some truly remarkable EVP’s, spiritbox sessions & also sls images. Also, too, it’s interesting to note, spirits still have feelings, emotions after crossing the veil.
Kindred Spirits is a fascinating show, & adding onto the investigative team, is really a neat aspect. Kindred Spirits will thrive simply because it’s the best approach to the spirit world.
Thank you for the blog. It is great to hear how you work, It makes us feel good that you are helping families both living and the dead.
Great blog,Great show always interesting ,i agree with your answer and tokeep you vibration high be confident ,but don,t do if feeling depressed or low energy because sometimes spirits can see that and use the opportunity to do something like that…
I’m so thrilled to see you have a blog! I’ll definitely be following along and joining in the conversation.
I just want to thank you for all you do! I’ve followed you and the others (Taps) since the beginning. I’ve learned so much and I’m so proud to use my skills an investigation come our way. I haven’t done it in awhile , but hope to get back. The passion I see you and Adam use, I want to use this in my life and teach others NOT to be afraid . My mother has passed away going on three years now, but she has been with me since then, I just talk to her and tell it’s okay to move on. Someone had asked my sister why your mother was stuck? Well, the last 6 years of her life was real rough on us. I’m babbling lol. Thank you so much. !!!!! Love and healing heart to you and Adam and both your families! Janice.
