Getting these questions a lot online, so decided to put them all here in a nice little blog. 🙂 (Caution – SPOILERS) Kindred Spirits Airs Thursday Nights at 10/9c. on TRAVEL CHANNEL.
How are things at the Odd Fellows compound/Belvoir Winery?
All is well. What we did there, worked. I talk to Jesse on a daily basis, and trust me, he’d let me know if anything strange was afoot, ha!
What was in the nursing home?Â
Despite Chip’s initial thought that what was in the building was a “low level demon”, after four days of investigating we determined that it was not. It lacked some of the most common signs of a “demonic” haunting – and as those are extraordinarily rare as it is – that was not our final determination. If it had been, our solution would have been much different than what we did.Â
Our theory is that we were dealing with what you might call a thought form, or as John Tenney has been calling them over the last 5-7 years, “emergents.” As the paranormal has become more and more popular, some of the more investigated and well known locations are beginning to spawn their own personality. In the nursing home, there has always been an angry presence in the morgue area and it’s one of the more popular spots to investigate in the complex.Â
Much like people are encouraged to visualize positivity in their lives to manipulate the energy in their homes and the outcomes of their fate – the exact opposite can happen in a space when time and time again, investigators sit in the dark and concentrate on the darkest, most negative things that happened in a location. They leave, that energy and purpose? Remains. This is what we believe happened in the morgue, and in turn, it went upstairs to the nursing home. What we encountered was confused. It kept presenting our worst fears as investigators, because that’s what we put into it. It also kept claiming to be…us.Â
Again, this is all theory and speculation – but we’re not the only investigators who have noticed this phenomenon. We also think it is important to remember this potential outcome as we investigate. It’s easily avoided if you monitor your investigative style – but also easily spotted.Â
Are you still doing home cases?Â
YES. But this season we’ve branched out to help not only homeowners, but anyone who needs help. Many of the places you see might not be homes, but they are places we have a deep personal connection to, or where we have a longtime relationship with the location and they’ve asked us to bring our particular investigative style in to help.Â
We love helping families, but we strongly feel that those spirits begging for help in some of those large, well known locations deserve our attention too. And I think you’ll see exactly why as the season progresses.Â
As for this first episode, anyone who follows me on social media, knows that Jesse and his family are dear friends of mine. We vacation together, our kids are friends, etc. So when Jesse came to us for help, we of course said yes.Â
Next episode, (second of the season), is one of the most heart wrenching family cases we’ve ever done. And again, will explore the idea of negativity in our lives and the power it has over us.Â
The cases seem darker this season. What’s going on?Â
We were down from filming for a year as the Discovery/Scripps merger settled. During that time, we were still flooded with case requests. And with that many case requests, we picked the ones who needed us most. The ones with the most extreme activity and sense of urgency. So yes, this season most of the cases are more aggressive than in season past. We loved them though, there was a sense of urgency to each case…and a lot of sleep deprivation, ha!Â
I’ve got about a million other questions from folks – but these seem to be the top ones, so thought I’d get them out there and answered. Thanks so much for joining us on this ride. This season of Kindred Spirits is intense, but we’re still the same Amy and Adam! Please follow us on all of our social media channels for regular updates and to see what we’re up to outside of filming! Also, if you ever want to learn hands on from us, please join us at any number of locations around the country with my company strange-escapes.com. (We’re even visiting and investigating the Odd Fellows/Belvoir Winery in April – and brining Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango, Chip Coffey, John Tenney and Greg and Dana Newkirk with us!)Â

Thanks Amy, I am learning from you and Adam by reading about your experiences and how you have been trying out new theories. Would you recommend always going into an investigation with other investigators with the idea of back up for support, ideas, and more hands on help? Have you ever gone in to an investigation alone? In the spring it is my hope to investigate the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa which is the last place Buddy Holly played before his plane crashed. I would like to investigate the crash site as well…is there any equipment you can recommend for outside investigation? The crash site is in a cornfield. Any pointers are certainly appreciated, John
RE: Thought forms or emergents – is there any known research on this area of the paranormal field? This sounds plausible because of the amount of energy and emotion that goes into every investigation. Once over, the investigation area is not cleansed of the investigators’ “footprint”. I feel that the energy left behind empowers those spirits with evil intent.
Anyway…my two cents.
I really appreciated the prayers and positive thoughts & energy that you all injected back into the building! Great episode and start to the season!
Regards,
D Williams
It was very intense…
It kind of left you hanging,
It just ended to soon
Love what you two are doing, keep up the great work.!!!
I miss Steve and Tango. I also miss Ghost Hunters. I’ve watched every episode. Love you and Adam. Thank you!!
I would like to know if there is a way to find out more information scientifically regarding ghosts and spirits communicating with us through different dimensions and realms. I guess looking at it through a physics point of view. How can we get more evidence for this? I completely believe in ghosts/spirits, aliens and think there must be a connection somehow through time space. It’s difficult to explain the way I’m thinking about it lol but are there any other views or thoughts on this? I’ve had plenty of experiences myself and just would like to understand better. Thanks so much.
Marcia – there are an unlimited number of theories on the subject. To me the most promising is that “time” is malleable, i.e. the flow of time can be manipulated (slowed or sped up). Even the GPS in your cell phone service must take into account that, for the communications satellites carrying the service, the satellite’s time is “slower” than it is for you on the surface of the earth. I have personally experienced anomalies at Antietam Battlefield, Pennhurst Asylum and Preston Castle. Thanks to Strange Escapes (and others) for making it possible for the public to experience these sites!
Just wanted to say if this is amy idea what to expect of season 3…..OMG. Number 1 show on TV right now. Episode one was terrific! Never stop doing what you two do. Loved every second!
Thanks for that Amy @ Adam this is a great way for those of Ilya who are intrigued by this episode! I love how you two are constantly tyrying new things
Hello Amy . I’m a big fan of yours. I started watching you guy’s this passed Oct 2018. Keep up the great work! See you the 27th of January 2019 with your new season
Hi I love you guys I catch you but feel like I’ve missed some .Would love to see front season 1 to last. I record if I see some of your shows are on.
The tnt paranormal investors came across the street from me they spoke highly of you and Chip. I live well my house is built on land that did belong to Debary Hall it was used as a hunting lodge so lucky. My daughter and husband love you too. Vickie
Love the way that you and Adam work together. I’m excited to see Steve and Tango join you for the winery episode!!! Absolutely love your show! I can see spirits but only when they want me too. Keep up the great work and all the people, dead or alive, that you are helping!!!
It’s not an episode. The winery aired on Thursday. They’re joining us for an event there.
Thanks for addressing “thought forms” or “emergents”. So many people are doing investigations and have such different investigation styles. It stands to reason that “it’s going to leave a mark”.
I think you two are the best Paranormal group out there. You actually converse with these spirits in a friendly way and they respond for the most part positively. The overseer from the old plantation is a case in point. To bad the current owner was too afraid to try to contact the spirit with you. I believe you two could have resolved a lot of problems between the owner and the spirit. There is one thing for sure that spirit isn’t going anywhere !
The last show, WOW !! To hear Lizzy Borden’s voice clearly WOW ! I would be willing to bet you will be the only one she will talk to.
Love your show
Mark
Love your show and so glad it is back. I was on the edge of my seat during this episode. Thanks for the explanation of thought forms. Steve and Tango…YAY!!!
